Monarch Larva (FIRST sighted)

Date: 07/05/2009

Number: 1

I spotted my first monarch caterpillar yesterday, on 5 July 2009. It was hidden in the stems of the milkweed floral buds. I looked again for it this AM but could not find it but black grains of elimination were accumulating below those buds. The wind was blowing strongly yesterday making it hard to see and is still tossing the milkweed today. The tiny black and yellow caterpillar could easily disappear in the tighter bud stems. I expect there are others hidden as have found spots of black droppings on other plants.
