Monarch (OTHER Observations)

Date: 06/26/2009

Number: 1

My family raises Monarchs by harvesting eggs & releasing the butterflies. I also supply my kids' school with caterpillars for them to raise, as well. I found your site via Monarch Watch. I was searching for information re: lack of butterflies so far this year. We have only seen three -- about 1 per week since the first one June 8th. Last year the first was June 1st, and in 2007 the first one was May 15th. Quite a difference! (Last year I supplied 9 classrooms with 6-8 caterpillars each). Right now I only have 10 chrsyalisids.... and only 8 newby caterpillars that hatched 2 days ago.. We are WAY behind... Hope the weather gets better!
