Observed 3 adult monarchs and 9 larvae of various ages and 10 eggs at our home at Laguna Beach which is a certified Monarch Waystation. About 10am observed a male Monarch mating with a female which had just emerged and wings were very soft. The male flew away with the female, landed on a nearby tall plumbago branch and stayed there for about 20 minutes (I took photos). A Gulf Fritillary also was getting in on the act!! Above on Aug./09/09. We are rearing Monarchs which are laying eggs on Asclepias plants which we just planted in 07/09.
