Tues Aug 4th 2009 was the first time all year I have seen any Mature Ruby Throated Males. I have 2 feeders in my Mothers backyard and 1 on the porch. I only saw Females visiting in the early evening, and I have seen Young Males with 1 or 2 bright red feathers on there necks through out July due to youngsters fleeing the nest. On Tues I observed 5 Bright Red Throated males fighting for my feeder hanging on the front porch. I remember last year that I had major activity with Mature Males in mid July my calculations are right they are at least a month behind. All I can say is wow ! There so pretty !! I have'nt seen the males this morning its Friday the 14th 2009 and the youngsters are back at the feeders in full swing. I think the older males are gone.
