Hummingbird Sighting

Date: 08/21/2009

Number: 1

Well it is the 3rd week in August and I have never had Hummers stay around this long feeding. Usually all the hummers have left my area by the 1st week in August. I know they are migrating south from the upper North by the number of Rufous that have shown up. There are several Rufous amid the others - Black chins and Calliopes. I gradually eliminated feeders from 9 to 2. There are about 6 to 10 hummers still feeding. Quite a few are Rufous. In July I had 1 to 2 Rufous hang around so when I saw as many as 4 to 5 recently, I knew they were migrating south. The weather here has been unseasonably warmer than usual. Upper 90's to 100 degrees.
