Hummingbird Sighting

Date: 08/17/2009

Number: 1

We think we're seeing signs of migration:

1. We have not seen a male since August 17th, five days ago, and we usually see him a dozen times a day.

2. Female/juvenile hummingbird(s) have been visiting our feeders who seem not to have been here before based on their behavior. They're exploring the big red bow above our feeder, looking all around it for a place to feed. (We put the bow there to attract the hummers in the spring, and we never took it down.) Our summer hummingbirds zoom directly to the feeder's perch, in contrast. These also seem unfamilier with us, They dart away from the feeder if we move suddenly inside or approach the window.
