Today about 3:30 pm I saw a hummingbird feeding at my trumpet creeper in the back yard. It also checked out my blooming ironweed blossoms then took off because it began to rain. I only saw its back so could not determine its gender with any accuracy. It was a quick glance out the back patio door and it's nectaring movement from flower to flower caught my attention. I'd say the hummingbirds have been around sporadically throughout the summer but once the trumpet creeper put out a lot of flowers this month the activity picked up. I do not put out feeders nor do my immediate neighbors.
