Hummingbird Sighting

Date: 08/22/2009

Number: 1

all hummer activity was normal today as it has been almost all summer. the "big kahuna" male hummer spends his day guarding the feeder I have put out for them. he intimidates and challenges all birds that come near his feeder. today he was threatening the cardinals and blue jays in addition to the purple finch, chickadee and titmouse. It actually is pretty darn funny to see him hold them off from the vicinity of his feeder..they look at him like he is nuts.(their feeders hang in the tree next to his) he does the same defensive behavior to other hummers, they try and some times succeed, to get around him or sneak in behind his back.
