Monarch (OTHER Observations)

Date: 08/19/2009

Number: 1

Hello from St. Martins. I was sitting on my deck minutes ago, near a pot of milkweed which is not hardy (that's why it's in a pot) and noticed four Monarch caterpillars. I'm surprised a female would lay eggs on a single plant, instead of in my big patch, but then I remembered, first my puppy had chased the only butterfly I saw, then the hummingbirds chased it as well. Maybe it was the only plant she could get near. Anyway, I'm not sure what kind of chance they have this late in the year, but I will keep an eye on them.
