Hummingbird Sighting

Date: 08/24/2009

Number: 1

There has been a dramatic increase in hummingbird activity over the last two days. I have often seen as many as 7 to 8 at one time. Usually there will be only one male among the group. They are most active in the early morning. After a long absence I have seen Ruby-throats again. There was a lovely male in the garden this morning. Black-chinned hummingbirds continue to be regular visitors. This was my first year to see this variety. Hummingbirds have been observed feeding from feeders and numerous flowers including Autumn Sage, Flame Acanthus, Butterfly Bush, Tropical Milkweed, Mexican Sunflower, and oddly enough Passionflowers.
