I have a little hummingbird feeder, looks like a little tube with a little yellow flower at the opening to fed from. I have it on a hummingbird feeder hanger, it has suction cups and I have it on my kitchen window. It stays shaded there just about all day, maybe 1 hour of sun might hit the feeder. I have a Red Hibiscus Tree in a pot sitting about 3 feet from kitchen window and I have a hanging basket with purple and red petunia's in it and that is right close to the feeder.
Sat. Aug., 22, 2009 a nice sunny day. At 11:42 am I seen a very tiny hummingbird come up to the Red Hibiscus Flower and then it came over to the petunias, it was going from flower to flower, then it went to the feeder. It was a Ruby Red Throated Hummingbird, it had the emerald green back. It keep coming back about every 15 min. on Sat. One time it came to feeder and another larger Hummingbird came and ran it off. I live right next to a park and I have a garden on the side of my house (park side)full of flower/plants hummingbirds like. I have been seeing hummingbirds since first part of July.
