Hummingbird Sighting

Date: 08/22/2009

Number: 1

I spent the weekend at my sister's cottage at the north end of Mazinaw Lake, in the Canadian Shield. Closest village is Cloyne. Coordinates are N44 degrees 57.684', W077 degrees 14.420'. There were lots of ruby-throated hummingbirds. There are many cottagers along this lake (access by boat) and most put out hummingbird feeders. A few have visited here for decades and have also planted flowering plants that attract hummingbirds. One lady told me it was not unusual for her to have 20 hummingbirds at the same time around her home.

We had many at my sister's cottage and I had a few buzz by my head! They apparently leave the area about Sept. 15th.
