Hummingbird Sighting

Date: 08/24/2009

Number: 1

Three feisty hummingbirds are still chasing each other around the feeder at our cottage on the Allegheny River 55 miles north of Pittsburgh. The elevation here in Venango County is 1300 ft. They frequent the feeder at all times of the day. One in particular likes to perch on a lower branch of a maple tree nearby and dive down to protect his territory when one of the others arrives. It is a forested region with deciduous and hemlock trees. Noticed them all day from my window cooking, doing dishes, and outside to more intently observe.
