Monarch (OTHER Observations)

Date: 08/28/2009

Number: 1

I live in Thunder Bay. Myself and others have reported sightings of Monarchs in our city, but they aren't showing on your map. Thunder Bay is on Lake Superior, about 3.5 hours north of Duluth, MN. It is on the east side of the lake..ie. before the bump in the Marathon area. Anyway, here in Thunder Bay, my friends and I have waystations. We had monarchs arrive in July. Both of my friend's gardens are on the S. end of Thunder Bay and it is much hotter there ..I have the lake effect in the N end of the city. Their monarchs have hatched and left. Mine are still in Crysalises (sp?)..but they are just starting to go clear. Change of frost tonight so I brought them in. Good weather for next week so they should be fine for migrating. Brought one to Missouri in my pocket once ..in Oct. because it wouldn't have made it from Thunder Bay. It hatched in the hotel and was released over the Mississippi river....awesome!
