Monarch Fall Roost

Date: 08/30/2009

Number: 50

While playing Frisbe with my golden retriever, I noticed Monarch Butterlies in our immediate area. After several throws that initiated butterfly movement, I looked up into the oak tree that we were playing beside and witnessed many, many Monarch Butterflies hanging onto the leaves. I have no idea how many there were - I guess 50 or more. They would hang there as if resting and then a few at a time would flitter around and return to the leaves. I am in my fifties and this is the first time I have ever witnessed this event. I went into the house to have my 83 year old father come out and see them. He too had never seen this. We are originally from the gulf south region of the US. My observation time: I was watching for ___ hours and _15_ minutes.
