Monarch (OTHER Observations)

Date: 08/09/2009

Number: 1

Eva F, Master Naturalist and MLMP monitor at Mitchell Lake Audubon Center in south San Antonio, Texas, reported the following:

"We have had a lot of queen larva at MLAC during June and July. When we monitor we see a lot of Queen butterflies but have not seen any Monarchs (adults). Back on August 9th I observed a tiny larva with no middle tennacle. Took it and container feed it thinking that maybe the middle tennacles would appear. Middle tennacles never appeared and on August 18th it formed a crysalis. Emerged this morning as a Monarch !!! Drove over to MLAC and released it in the Milkweed garden. Such a beautiful butterfly !!!"
