seen a flock of several hundred birds on high power wires close to our home. they were a dark color, not ones i'm familar i.e starlings, etc. kinda made me think of chimney swifts but they were not those either. i saw the pic of the barn swallow today on jnorth and the flock of birds i saw had a similar wing symetry but not a double tail. reading some of the other obsevations i realized i haven't seen a robin since july. i have not seen at least one praying mantis this entire season. the choke cherry trees are first to lose thier leaves and been dropping about 2 weeks now. the trees have lost about a third of thier leaves and the ones left on tree are yellowish. my maples are still nice and geen. butterfly activity is reducing still seeing them here and there 1 at a time. was seeing at least a monarch a day up til a week ago tho i saw one on the 8/30 and today 8/31 also saw a yellow swallow tail today and been seeing a larger black one with light dots on edges of wings. this suumer here in pittsburgh could be summed up as wet and cool apr, may, and thru the end of jun, july started out dry til mid jul. then precip. was norm. the heat and humidity never came until after the 1st week of aug. usually the ac is cranking from 1st wk of jun. haven't seen a male RT IN ALMOST 2 WKS. f/jv RTs went from 1/4c sugar water to now about 1/3c a day. seeing 3 at a time.
