Hummingbird Sighting

Date: 09/03/2009

Number: 1

Hummers very busy today. We feed at four different "statons," three feeders at each.
Six to eight feisty hummers much of afternoon...76 degrees, wind from south. A sad occurrence 09/02/09...lady had continued feeding jelly for Northern Orioles. Bald-faced hornets sucked juice from jelly leaving thick mass. Immature hummer "got stuck....badly...like up to her neck. Gently used slow hose to "lift" her out of mess and clean her up....may have been in jell all afternoon expending energy. Between that and the water, she eventually died. TOUGH SUMMER ON HUMMERS. EIGHT WINDOW and GARAGE kills turned in to us!! JRBrown River Center, Henderson, MN
