Monarch (OTHER Observations)

Date: 08/31/2009

Number: 1

On 8/31/09 we went to South Haven on Lake Michigan in the afternoon. Wind was very light out of the north and northwest, temp in the high 60's. Saw only one monarch and it was not migrating. Were right on the shoreline. Previous weather had been rainy and cool for several days.
A friend had seen 4 monarchs migrating earlier in the day about 30 miles inland from the lake.

On 9/2/09 in the afternoon my husband went to South Haven. Wind was about 5-6 m/h out of NE, temp low 70s. He saw a few monarchs with no directional flight. He also saw towards inland 5 monarchs migrating in a 20 minute period.

So neither day was there any migration along the shoreline and only very sparse inland. Will try again in the next few days.
