Hummingbird Sighting

Date: 09/05/2009

Number: 1

I live in the foot-hills of the mountains where there is scrub oak. I have 7 saucer bird feeders that they love. I make my humming bird food from just sugar and water (no food coloring) and they love it. Most left a few weeks ago...it was like constant bees buzzing around just before they left. But there are still several around and they are protective of the feeders, even though there are 7, more than enough for everyone. The ones left chase each other away and will just sit at the feeders. I have butterfly bushes, honey suckle and other things they like. The area is dense with foliage and I think they nest in the scrub oak in the woods, as I can see them perched in the top of those trees during the summer months.
