Hummingbird Sighting

Date: 09/08/2009

Number: 1

RTHB afterHY/after2Y female
Relatively clean but thin
white on tips of rects clean and rel. broad
gorget fine black stippling
back more green gold in sun contrasting with more emerald wings
tail projected slightly beyond pointed wingtips
fed regularly all day 09/07/09 from Droll Yankee saucer feeder
not particularly shy
first heard/seen at 0930
she sat and drank heavily
this is not my permanent home but have been here for 18 mos
The immediate yard does not contain my usual smorgasbord of hummer plants and feeders but I planted what could get.
there is a sizable creek she may
be following and a huge old sugar maple behind house
No chemicals on this lot but have golf course across street and
lots of "chemically-dependant grass growers" around us
