Hummingbird Sighting

Date: 09/06/2009

Number: 1

My wife and I 1st observed a Ruby Throated Hummer at 9am when we started breakfast. She noticed the bird was going back and forth from the wire to the feeder. This happened for 30 minutes and I said maybe she's refueling for a trip. Not flying more than 5 feet. We have never witnessed this before, but she was there more than 2 hours that we observed, maybe more, possibly earlier than we noticed. After 90 minutes went by another female appeared and they fought over the feeder rights. The new bird was soon accompanied by a third, possibly a male, both soon flew off leaving the original female alone. No birds have appreared in 2 days since. The food was a new filling of a 3 to 1 mix which may have helped. We will leave the food out for at least a month since we have had late birds in the past.
