Monarch (OTHER Observations)

Date: 09/09/2009

Number: 1

Lots and lots of caterpillars in the fields that weren't mowed recently. Most found on swamp milkweed as it grows in parts of the fields the farmers don't mow. Interesting that the larvae on those are eating the pods as well as the leaves. Larvae supplied to about 16 classrooms should be headed south in 2-3 weeks. Adults were also seen in the same fields.
