Signs of Fall

Date: 09/10/2009

This evening we drove down the road to one of our favorite haunts.... Mt. Pisgah, in the Northern Tier of PA. It was errily silent..... not a bird in sight! As dusk fell around us, we kicked out two Great Blue Herons that were perched in a large pine tree near the lake. As we were walking up the hill to our car, the entire surface of the lake came alive with bats skimming the surface of the water hawking insects! In all my years of hiking and observing nature, I've never seen a sight like this! It was one of those special 'life experiences!'
