Hummingbird Sighting

Date: 09/09/2009

Number: 1

A humming bird in the garden, only one now -- was getting nectar from the salvias; then a swoop over the yard, a little pause and look back as if to say thank you a lot for helping us on our way. Seems that that is the last for this humming bird journey south migration. This season for the arrival of humming birds at my location is around the last of July and the first week in August nad they have generally gone by the end of August or first few days in September. Both the arrival and the last siteing are later this year. Seems to be many juveniales this year and two other rare sightings? white line above the eyes in two young birds (Annas?) and one with very long bill possible black chinned? Many Ruby throats mixed in and a few calliope.
The latest that I have recorded of seeing a humming bird a my location was September 24 in 2005. Cheers all - really enjoy those little jewels.
