There was a Monarch nectaring on one of the butterfly bushes in the back yard this afternoon. Monarchs sightings have been more frequent than usual for the past 6 weeks. I recall one day seeing 6 Monarchs within 15 minutes nectaring on the flowers in our yard and 7 Monarchs another day during a 20 minute time period. I also observed numerous sightings while driving on local rural roads. Temperatures have been below normal and precipitation above normal for this time period resulting in abundant flowers and more milkweed than normally observed.
