Last year the peak migration for the Monarchs passing through Lincoln, Nebraska was on Sept 24th, 2008. It was an incredible day! Since I'm aware of the date getting close to last years, I spent the afternoon today on our backyard patio and watched the Monarchs traveling south and into our gardens for a sip or 2 of nectar before continuing on their long journey. During a 3 hour period I recorded 87. It will be interesting if tomorrow's #'s will average any higher, or if today was "THE" day. Our weather is suppose to change drastically Sunday evening with T-storms...bringing with it our 1st major cold snap of the season. Tomorrow will be the last day that will be in the high 70's to low 80's for the next week. The temps will average in the high 50's to low 60's for the following 5-6 days. I personally don't believe the peak migration will pass through after tomorrow. I believe it's happening now...at least the leading edge of the peak migration is definitely passing through for sure! My observation time: I was watching for _3__ hours and _0__ minutes.
