Second day that the number of Ruby-throated Hummingbirds has really been down in the backyard. I asked Altus to count, I counted an hour later, and we both came up with eight RT's around the feeders. The number was the same yesterday and down from eighteen a couple of days ago and really down from over fifty just three and four days ago. We have had a good west and northwest wind (offshore) and had been guessing that was going to bring to an end the peak of the RT's here along the coast. That kind of wind gives the hummers a tailwind to make their jump from here to the Yucatan or at least to move on down the coast towards Mexico. Hawk and Kite migration in full swing.
