Signs of Fall

Date: 09/20/2009

Number: 1

I have seen masses of south migrating robins once before. This evening it happened again. There were hundreds of robins flying over, a dozen or more at a time, headed south. We live just east of the crest of the Loess Hills, in western Iowa. I wonder if our location is a path for the robins headed south. No, I don't wonder, I know... as I have observed this twice now.
Another interesting point.... we have had dozens and dozens of bumblebees and honey bees gourging on the jelly that originally was put out for our oriales. The oriales have gone but the bees continue to entertain us. I have had to resupply the jelly a couple times a day recently, at six feedng locations.
