Date: 09/20/2009

Number: 1

Ruby-throated hummingbirds picked up a bit today here along the midcoast of Texas when the wind switched around to the east, coming out the Gulf. The TPWD licensed bird bander that bands west of Victoria had his report tonight and he and his crew banded only five hours (they worked two days down at Rockport and banded four hundred there) the results are: Buff-bellied HB, 3 new, 15 recaptures; Ruby-throated, 132 new, 23 recaptures; Rufous, just one recapture. Plus these comments:

"One of the most frequently banded Buff-bellied at the banding station was captured as a young male on 25 Septermber 2002. He showed back up again today making this the 8th winter at our banding station. We have captured this bird 53 times over the years."

"Another long time resident of the banding station is a Rufous female that was banded in November of 2003. She has spent every winter since with us. We have handled her 41 times over the years."
