Monarch PEAK Migration

Date: 08/28/2009

Number: 1

Today I spoke with Tammy C at Point Pelee National Park. In the last week of August 2009, there was a movement of monarchs through Pelee. On August 28th, visitors were delighted to see about 1000 monarchs at the tip. The number counted on August 29th and 30th was about 700, and on August 31st, about 300. Since then the daily counts have been low, with numbers such as 1,2, 8, etc.

Last year, the largest cluster reported at Pelee held an estimated 600 monarchs.
