Monarch PEAK Migration

Date: 09/19/2009

Number: 1

Although I am seeing only an occasional monarch in my yard or neighbors' yards, I was at a nature center near Lincoln yesterday (9/19)where we did an official butterfly count. We counted 100+ monarchs during a two-hour hike through the tall grass prairie. The butterflies were nectaring on sunflowers, goldenrod and New England Asters. The report from the naturalist was that the butterflies have been coming through in steady numbers for the past two weeks.
