I was sitting on the balcony of a rental home relaxing and reading a book at about 6:30PM. It was a paperback and I was holding it in my left hand about 16" in front of my eyes. Suddenly I heard a loud whirring sound which startled me and caused me to quickly lower the book. Hovering about 2' in front of my face was a female or immature RT Hummingbird. It remained a second or two before darting into a nearby tree. I think it must have been attracted to my book which had an all black cover with a single bright red figure on it.
