Monarch (OTHER Observations)

Date: 09/23/2009

Number: 1

Our 4th grade class had a monarch caterpillar, 9-09-09 that turned into a chrysalis and then emerged today, 9/23/09. It emerged at 7:30 am and we released it at 12:30 pm. It took off-fluttering and heading south. Just as we released it one other monarch floated by.

I have been checking milkweed plants and this year have seen a caterpillar on every plant! I have never seen caterpillars at this time and have been doing this unit for 6 years at this same time. Usually we just have dead monarchs to look at. So this year have been soooo special.
