Hummingbird Sighting

Date: 09/24/2009

Number: 1

Yes, I still have hummingbirds here at home in Canton, Michigan.

There were two hatch year birds here yesterday.

So far today I have only seen one hatch year bird. I think it's a little male because of the stippling under his chin and the darkish lower chest below a brighter band under the gorget area of his throat. If he sticks around long enough for a gorget feather or two to develop I'll know for sure!

Today is a perfectly beautiful day for watching hummers but we have a remodeling project ongoing in the family room (that's the best room for observing the hummers) and all of the furniture is blocking the living room window (the only other room to view the backyard gardens). So, this mornings sightings of the single bird will have to suffice until the contractor leaves this evening and I can regain access to the familyroom window/door wall.

Good Luck! to everyone who still has wee-winged visitors, and for those down South whose hummers have already left for the season... keep an eye out, I have a couple left who'll be headed your way in a few weeks.
