Signs of Fall

Date: 09/29/2009

Number: 1

Nature preparing for fall:
Observations: Increase in Monarch sightings
Mast acorn drop starting from Red Oak, Walnut trees, Hickory Nuts
Wooly Bear caterpillars moving
Wet weather recently has caused fire ants to migrate to higher ground, increasing hill activity
Spiders moving "indoors" increasing careful cleanup on my part around piles
Breezes increasing from the WNW bringing in drier and cooler air, temperature dropping in overnight, lower day highs
Pony putting in winter PJ's, also, interestingly, once September arrives she starts to eat barks on trees, and also woody brush. Being a Native Irish breed, could this be an instinctive behavior ingrained through ages of foraging in barren places? She has plenty of acreage and grasses.
Moon is Waxing to full bringing lot of animal activity to life at night, Owls heard, night birds.
Hawk activity increasing in pairs(migrating?)
Leaves turning, fall flowering
