Our school grounds has a beautiful butterfly garden that is recognized as a schoolyard habitat sanctuary. Students enjoy walking through it and observing the many different butterflies that inhabit it.
We also have a very large Southern Red Oak tree on our school grounds. It is believed to be about 100 years old and one of the largest on record in Georgia. It is home to many animals including birds, squirrels, chipmunks, etc. Students see squirrels preparing for fall as they store leaves and nuts in a large hole in the tree. Our third grade Garden Earth Club (afterschool science club) has recently amended the grounds to prevent erosion from uncovering all of the roots. A mobile classroom has also been removed from its roots.
