Signs of Fall

Date: 10/01/2009

Number: 1

My students have been looking for signs of fall for two weeks now. Changes seemed to be slow the first week, with few leaves changed. In a week's time, there was a noticeable difference. Leaves were starting to turn. We especially noticed that some birds that were prominent the first week, such as hawks and turkey vultures, seemed to be far fewer the second. Yesterday, we had our first snowfall of the year, and the difference this morning is dramatic. Temperatures dropped 30 degrees in a day. Snow covers the tops of the mountains. Most of the leaves have now changed colors. No birds are in sight anymore.
