Monarch (OTHER Observations)

Date: 09/29/2009

Number: 1

While cleaning up my garden on Sunday Sept. 20, I found a chrysalis. I had just thrown an armload of milkweed plants into the wheelbarrow, when I noticed the chrysalis. It had attached itself to the underside of one of the leaves.

I brought it indoors and after waiting 10 days, it finally emerged last evening (9/29). A healthy male.

This is very late in the season for this far north in Ontario. His chances are slim to done if I release him. The weather forecast for the next week calls for rain every day, with temperatures less than 60 F.

Looks like I have myself a pet monarch, for however long he survives.
