went out to get mail and noticed about 25-30 monarch looking butterflies on my purple butterfly bush. haven't seen many butterflies of ANY kind this year until sep 26. wasn't sure if they were monarch, emperors or viceroys. looked up pictures on websites and confirmed that they were monarchs. they were not going to the yellow butterfly bush about 20 feet away. a friend across the street could even see them swarming. we were outside for about 20 minutes watching them. did not see but 4-5 around the purple bush until today, 2 oct. there were maybe 10-15 today.
