Monarch Fall Roost

Date: 09/24/2009

Number: 1000

While visiting Hackberry Flat Wildlife Management Area in SW Oklahoma, we observed hundreds (a thousand?) resting/roosting in the small Willow trees along one of the water canals just east of the new center. We observed them for about 15 minutes while they swirled in the space around us and drifted into the willows to rest and roost. Hackberry Flat is located a little SE of Fredrick, OK, in Tillman county. The time of the sighting was 5:38 pm. I have added a few photos to my blog that you might enjoy.
