Monarch (OTHER Observations)

Date: 10/04/2009

Number: 1

It may sound venturesome to forecast, but my estimate is that we will have a vigorous southward migration to the wintering grounds of the Monarchs. Perhaps this will offset large mentalities due to fat reserves build up in our friends, and in turn an increase in numbers in the 2010 northward trek (provided logging is under control).

Reason is that we've had plentiful rains all over Mexico on this September, which very likely boost extensive blooming along their pathways. It is reassuring not only for the Monarchs, but for other creatures as well like honeybees, which local honey producers forecast a over-average fall honey crop. Pls consider that It has rained so much that humidity will likely stay in the soil to allow vigorous Spring blooms on the return leg of their journey.

Been traveling around nearby Saltillo and it is a welcome sight to see fat cattle grazing on green pastures, where for years was plain barren desert.
