After cold weather in August and September delayed eclosing of our garden monarchs I brought the two inside our house on October 1, still attached to their hosta leaves. Our first chrysalis eclosed on Sunday, October 4, after 27 days inside the chrysalis. This female monarch flew off the same day heading south. The other chrysalis is behind by several days; hopefully he will eclose before the weather is too cold.(I have been observing the two since they were small caterpillars.) I saw only one other monarch butterfly on September 19 (unlike past years when I observed hundreds.) My observation time: I was watching for __?_ hours and ___ minutes. I have been checking daily in September in the cleared meadow above our house where in past years I have observed hundreds of butterflies during migration. This year I saw none except for the one I observed in our yard on September 19 and of course the one that eclosed on October4.
