Monarch Fall Roost

Date: 09/28/2009

Number: 20

We were at our Jack County cabin Sept. 28/29, weather was lovely and sunny, and we did see approx. 15-20 monarchs floating in and roosting in a large oak that overlooks our pond. Nothing like the numbers we have seen in past years; there were dozens of other butterflies active. (sulphurs, painted lady and especially wood satyrs.) It has been quite cool and rainy here in Fort Worth the last 3 days (10/2-5) and we are seeing no butterfly activity at all, although our salvia, lantana, tickseed, and gayfeathers etc. are all in great bloom.
