Week 6 continued the upward trend in the number of monarchs seen on our Road Census. Claire I. recorded 113 monarchs on the morning census on October 10.

Week 5 has produced the largest numbers of migrant monarchs to date for the 2009 season. Claire I. recorded 101 monarchs on the mid-day census on October 5.


The Monarch Monitoring Project (Cape May Bird Observatory / New Jersey
Audubon) in Cape May, NJ is conducting its 20th year of research and education. Road Census data (sampling migrant monarch numbers along the mid-Atlantic coast) for the first four weeks of the 2009 season is now posted on our website. Details of our project may also be found on the website.
