Monarch Fall Roost

Date: 10/04/2009

Number: 1000

Made trip to Abilene State Park and found a large roosting area.
Roosting area is located in Day Picnic area across from the Meadow Garden viewing platform.
Look for the giant cement Benches and find the water/pond behind that.

Monarchs were clustered in Juniper, Mimosa and Pecan trees on the other side of the water.
I did see a lot in the trees on my side of pond, but those seemed to be disturbed by traffic and seemed to keep moving.

I would say at the roosting area that there were at least 1,000 Monarchs that I could see.Monarchs were all over Abilene State Park. Nature trails had some Monarchs on them. Many were viewed just from the parking lots. Some were just circling high above.
