Monarch PEAK Migration

Date: 10/05/2009

Number: 1

October 10
Today, Saturday 10/10/09 I counted 200 monarchs in 15 minutes. I was standing outside the Nature Center / Office on Eaton Hill and could see 100 feet to my left and approx 50 ft to my right. Monarchs were flying over at a near constant pace. Taking a trip down the hill to check some favorite trees, I found hundreds in the pecan trees and saw several resting/drinking? in the fresh cut grass of the draw. We have had a good rain recently, and the normally dry draw has water standing in places.

Monarchs everywhere! Driving thru Sonora, near the Middle School, up on Eaton Hill, and at the cemetery. Throughout the day, monarchs were spotted above and around. The sun came out soemtime after 1:00, and I counted 50+ monarchs in about 3 minutes. Some were low and some were quite high in the sky. Around 5:30, at least 100 were seen at the cemetery.
