Hummingbird Sighting

Date: 10/09/2009

Number: 1

I still have 8 nectar feeders hanging under the eaves of my back porch plus one around the corner of the house on the kitchen window. We've had 2 severe thunderstorms this afternoon and they are always busiest and more numerous at these times (like dawn and dusk). I counted approx 2 per feeder, or at least 16 birds right before the first storm. This number is down from 25-30 hummers last week. My "King Bird" at the kitchen window still guards his feeder, trying (and usually winning) at keeping this feeder all his...some sneak in when he has to seriously engage another and they fly away for a few minutes.
This year is special for some reason for this many Rubies still here this late, and I hope they can stay longer before their long trip.
