Hummingbird Sighting

Date: 10/01/2009

Number: 1

Activity at the hummingbird feeders in neighborhood had suddenly dropped off. We assumed all had migrated. September 20. However,September 23rd, still-present hummingbirds back at feeders. Then not visible again for a couple of days. This pattern continued until last sighting in these northern climes on October 1st!
By the way, some native flowers have bloomed again..for instance wild aster, turtle head, some daisies, some black-eyed susans, even some delphiniums. Today, Oct.9th, I'm still enjoying an occassional daisy, purple and white asters, even a random morning glory. But nites now down to steady 40 or below and days to not get above mid-40's so expect things to change rapidly now. Been a beautiful, gradual color change of hardwood leaves in forests. Leaves are in gradations of colors more like a watercolor wash of vermillion red and washing to subtle sepia or green or pinks. Each leaf a masterpiece. (Safe journey little hummers. We'll miss you.)
