Hummingbird Sighting

Date: 10/10/2009

Number: 1

From 5:30 - 6:15 PM, my husband and I observed a female Ruby-throated hummingbird in our backyard hummingbird habitat. She visited Lonicera sempervirens, Lobelia cardinalis, Buddleja, and Aquilegia canadensis (one plant in the rock garden was producing some very late flowers!). Between meals, she would perch for several minutes at a time on either a Lonicera vine or a climbing rose. She appeared to be in good condition (noticeably plumper than the birds who reside here in summer). Weather conditions: upper 60's, cloudy to partly sunny.
